cut from the same cloth...

i saw an older man today...
he was alone; walking in the rain...
i saw his face...and felt his pain...
his face was sad...he used a cane...
i saw this man...looked in his eyes...
then felt my very being cry...
immediately...i could see...
at once i knew...this man was me...
we were cut from the same cloth...
his dirty clothes...who knows when bought...
i wondered if he had a home...
or just the streets were his to roam...
i wondered if or when he'd eaten...
i somehow knew that life had beaten...
this man's heart...into the ground...
but he walked away...without a sound...
the only thing thing between us stands...
our own unknowing...compassion's hand...
a little glimpse...into my being...
more compassion...ever freeing...
in honor of that man today...
that i saw walking in the rain...
may compassion set us free...
being...that is always me...
